Timber Windows

TIMBER SASH WINDOWS

Our Timber Sash Windows are built to deliver the highest standards of security, insulation and durability.

Made from multi-layered, warp resistant timber, our timber sash windows require little maintenance due to their microporous three layer paint protection. The sashes open smoothly and effortlessly with minimal effort required!

Our timber sash windows are not only wonderful to look at, but they have triple draught strips, preventing rattles even in high winds and making them much more energy efficient. If your current sash windows are causing draughts, it could be time to replace them with our timber sash range

Timber Sash Windows
Windows that result in a 45% energy saving.

County’s replacement windows consist of thermally insulating double glazed units, argon gas in between the cavities and low conductivity spacer bars to minimise edge losses. Therefore, they can lead to 45% greater energy savings when compared to standard double glazing. When compared to single glazing, they are 80% more efficient.

Our timber experts can help you understand the energy efficient benefits.

Timber Windows Cutaway Detail

Coloured Silicone Seals

Purpose-made grooves on the inside and outside of the window receive the silicone necessary to protect against water ingress. Appropriate coloured or clear silicone is factory applied, guaranteeing a perfect, unobtrusive seal.

Exceptional Optical Clarity

Advanced glass technology not only provides enhanced thermal performance but also much improved clarity, particularly compared to traditional hard coated low e glasses. High light transmittance (77%) maximises the entry of natural light into the home.

Warm Edge Spacer Bars

Low conductivity spacer bars help to minimise heat loss and combat condensation levels on the inner pane.

Rebated Glazing Beads

In standard timber systems, paint is prone to cracking at the point where the bead meets the window frame. By rebating the glazing bead over the sash we conceal the joint, which eliminates the problem.

Multi-layer Timber Sections

The use of multi-layer timber for windows and doors is long established in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, but very rare in Britain. The multi-layer structure used as standard throughout our range is particularly effective in resisting warping and twisting, as the opposing grains even out natural moisture movement. It is the twisting of timber during wet weather, more than the swelling itself, which causes standard wooden windows and doors to stick.

Ventilation Channels

Ventilation channels protect against the failure of double glazed units. In standard systems misting can occur when glazing units are allowed to sit in water trapped within the frame.

Internal Beads

Glass is fitted from room side to prohibit would-be intruders from gaining entry by removing the glass.
Designed for British Homes

Our flush and storm roof timber range has been designed for homeowners who value classic style and modern performance.

Due to using the very best technology, our timber windows are manufactured in separate components with amazing precision, and our automated paint plant produces a finished product with a durable and long lasting coating. Innovative and highly advanced manufacturing enables us to create shapes and complex fenestration in countless designs.

Timber Windows, our timber window and door manufacturer, are the very best in the industry...

Through their constant innovations, Timber Windows are well-known for their quality timber products. Since 2004, they have been manufacturing engineered timber windows and doors to the UK market, using a mixture of German engineering with Scandinavian techniques.

Before Timber Windows, engineered timber was not available in the UK and thanks to their determination, experience and skill, British homes can now experience timber that won’t rot, warp or twist. Our timber windows and doors require very little maintenance and promise to look exceptional for years to come. That’s why we use Timber Windows and will continue to do so.

Timber Windows
You’ll find it all in our assortment of colours...

Natural Timber Finish - Why not highlight the fact that your windows and doors are made from real timber? Our selection of natural stains are extremely popular for homeowners in Kent and Sussex. Many customers appreciate the golden sheen of redwood and others prefer our deep, rich redwood finish.

Your Choice of Colour - From the traditional to the trending, there’s so many colour finishes to choose from. You may choose to have dual coloured windows and doors - one colour for the interior and one for the exterior. There’s also the option to colour match your timber windows and doors to Farrow & Ball and Fired Earth paint, in addition to any standard RAL colour.

Before our timber windows are assembled, they are factory painted for protection against moisture. A stark contrast to gloss paint, the micro-porous coating won’t chip or peel. All that’s needed is an infrequent wipe down. Get the most out of your windows by re-staining your frames around the eight year mark.

Flush Timber Windows & Front Door
County’s timber windows are exceptionally secure.

Security - Our timber windows have multi-point locking systems to provide first rate security. Additionally, they have special cams to make sure the windows close securely onto their draughty excluding gaskets.

Noise reduction - A calm home is a happy one. Our timber windows will make your home feel much more peaceful and they are especially useful if you live close to a railway, busy road or even under a flightpath. If you want to enhance our timber windows’ soundproofing abilities further, ask us about our acoustic glass.

Timber Windows Security Locks
Factory painted prior to assembly, providing complete protection from moisture absorption to ensure long life.

Thanks to our durable finishes, the finishes are likely to last five to eight years before needing to be retreated. Fortunately, you can retreat your timber windows in as little as half an hour.

There is no limit to the design of our windows because they are handmade, made to measure for you and your home.

We will ensure our timber windows suit your style of home, whether it’s a heritage home or new build. When you choose County, you aren’t restricted to standard right-angle frames. In fact, you can specify frames in various styles, including arched, curved and circular shapes.

LEARN ABOUT OUR TIMBER SASH WINDOWS

Our timber sash windows suit both modern homes and traditional properties alike. If you have any questions about our sash windows and if it’s right for you, we’ve answered some common questions below. If your question isn’t answered, don’t hesitate to contact our window team who will be happy to answer your questions and help you find your perfect timber sash window.

Are sash windows hard to open?

Our range of timber sash windows have been manufactured to be easy to open, so you should never struggle to operate them.

Sash windows work by having the pane slide up and down, using a pulley and weight mechanism inside the window frame. When a sash opens, the weight counterbalances with a weight inside the window frame, so to open the sash window, you need to be able to move the small weight inside the window. This is very easy to do and you shouldn’t find it difficult.

Unfortunately, ignoring maintenance and repairs can quickly lead to problems with older timber sash windows. Without the right care, it’s common for sash windows to become stuck which makes them difficult to open and close. Our timber sash window range is designed to need very little maintenance, so they’ll continue to work perfectly long after they’re installed.

If you have any questions on how sash windows work or if you’d like to see our range in person, we recommend visiting one of our showrooms.

Which home types suit sash windows?

While sash windows are usually thought of as traditional windows, they can be made to suit any property type in Kent and Sussex.

For period homes, sash windows are the perfect choice thanks to their period design, and the ability to customise them has made them a popular choice for homeowners and planning officials. Their traditional features make them likely to be accepted in conservation areas, although if you are in a conservation area, we recommend consulting your local authority for guidance.

Whether you live in a modern new build or a contemporary family home, our timber sash windows are an excellent choice for your replacement window installation. Thanks to their stylish design, security features and energy efficiency, they’re the perfect choice for anyone looking to add a classic touch to their home.

How can I customise my sash windows to match my home?

No matter what your personal style requirements are or the look of your home, we can tailor our timber windows to match your property.

Part of what makes our sash windows such a versatile option is the range of customisation options available to you.

Our windows come in a range of colours ranging from the traditional to the contemporary. Whether you’re looking for a stunning natural finish that brings out the features of a timber window or a more modern colour, we have what you’re looking for. We can supply timber windows in any RAL colour, so you can match your new windows to your existing doors for a seamless look.

So much of what makes the character of a window is the hardware used; the handles and fixtures you use can drastically change the style of the frames and we offer a wide range of fittings to suit any style.

Our supplier’s partnership with Samuel Heath gives you access to an exclusive selection of architectural hardware and ironmongery which perfectly complement our timber sash windows. From antique brass unlacquered to polished nickel and satin chrome, you can find the perfect hardware for your new windows in our collection.

Can I add sash windows to a bay window?

Yes, you can add sash windows to a bay window.

Bay windows are very common with older homes, which typically featured sash windows, so these two window styles go together very well.

Bay windows are a window style that consist of multiple windows extending out from the main wall of a building. While the windows used in bay windows can be almost any type, timber sash windows look particularly charming when used this way. As bay windows are made up of multiple smaller windows, if you don’t already have sash windows you can choose to add them in as you’re replacing your old frames.
