Timber Orangeries
Nearly double the effectiveness of standard double glazing

Our replacement timber windows and frames  have been manufactured to include upgraded thermally efficient double glazed units, resulting in them being 80% more efficient at reducing heat loss than single glazing and 45% more efficient than ordinary double glazing. To achieve this high level of energy efficiency, the cavity in between the glass panes is filled with argon gas with low conductivity spacer bars to minimise edge losses.

Speak to a County advisor about the performance benefits of our timber windows and their intelligent glazing.

Timber Windows Cutaway Detail

Coloured Silicone Seals

Purpose-made grooves on the inside and outside of the window receive the silicone necessary to protect against water ingress. Appropriate coloured or clear silicone is factory applied, guaranteeing a perfect, unobtrusive seal.

Exceptional Optical Clarity

Advanced glass technology not only provides enhanced thermal performance but also much improved clarity, particularly compared to traditional hard coated low e glasses. High light transmittance (77%) maximises the entry of natural light into the home.

Warm Edge Spacer Bars

Low conductivity spacer bars help to minimise heat loss and combat condensation levels on the inner pane.

Rebated Glazing Beads

In standard timber systems, paint is prone to cracking at the point where the bead meets the window frame. By rebating the glazing bead over the sash we conceal the joint, which eliminates the problem.

Multi-layer Timber Sections

The use of multi-layer timber for windows and doors is long established in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, but very rare in Britain. The multi-layer structure used as standard throughout our range is particularly effective in resisting warping and twisting, as the opposing grains even out natural moisture movement. It is the twisting of timber during wet weather, more than the swelling itself, which causes standard wooden windows and doors to stick.

Ventilation Channels

Ventilation channels protect against the failure of double glazed units. In standard systems misting can occur when glazing units are allowed to sit in water trapped within the frame.

Internal Beads

Glass is fitted from room side to prohibit would-be intruders from gaining entry by removing the glass.

PERSONALISE THE DESIGN

When selecting the windows for your timber conservatory, you will be presented with the many ways we can personalise them to your taste, including finding the perfect colour finish, glazing and hardware.

We are proud to supply and install homeowners in Sussex and Kent with Timber Windows’ innovative range of products...

Timber Windows launched over 15 years ago and since then their timber products have led the market when it comes to design, construction and performance. Passionate about timber, we couldn’t have chosen a better manufacturer for our timber products.

Timber Windows use multi-layer timber sections with opposing grains to balance warping and prevent twisting, unlike traditional timber products commonly used in the UK. This tactic is widely used in Scandinavia and North Europe, with Britain often falling behind its neighbours in producing quality timber with excellent performance. Thankfully, timber Windows has the solution with their low-maintenance, contemporary timber products. Moreover, Timber Windows believes in sustainability, including offering certified European Redwood from sustainably managed plantations in Northern Europe. Whenever trees are cut down to produce high-quality windows and doors, new trees are planted.

Bring out the beauty of timber with colour...

For a Natural Timber Finish - Timber is naturally beautiful to look at and therefore many homeowners prefer to highlight the richness rather than hide it. We have numerous natural stains, such as redwood and meranti hardwood, that will enhance our timber windows, doors and conservatories.

Colour Options For You - As all windows and doors are painted prior to being built, they offer protection from moisture absorption, making them extremely long-lasting. Micro-porous coatings are used for the final two coats of paint but our timber frames also receive a base and primer coat. The coatings should look brand-new for five to eight years before needing to be retreated. A typical timber window would take around half an hour to repaint if you decide to alter the colour of your windows and there will be no sanding needed.

The micro-porous coating prevents the finish from peeling away or chipping and therefore the only maintenance we recommend you do is an occasional wipe down. However, to really extend the life of the finish, we suggest you re-stain the frames around the 8 year mark.

Our multi-point locking systems upgrade your home’s security.

Security - Every County product we offer consists of high security features to keep your home safe and secure. Similarly, our replacement timber windows are fitted with advanced security locks that engage bolts in multiple points.

Reducing noise - Timber windows do a great job at soundproofing your home, reducing sound levels within your property and creating a calmer environment. This is particularly beneficial if you live by a main road, railway or under a flightpath.

GOT A QUESTION ABOUT OUR TIMBER CONSERVATORIES?

Planning on extending your home with a timber conservatory? It’s normal to have questions, so we’ve answered some of the most common questions we get below. If you have any other questions or want to talk your extension through please contact our team for advice.

How long will a timber conservatory last?

Timber-built conservatories can endure for decades.

The average lifespan of a timber conservatory is very dependent on the type of wood used to construct the design and how well it’s looked after.

Sourced from deciduous trees, hardwood timber is the finest form of timber for conservatory building as it is long-lasting, doesn’t weather easily, and is a great deal tougher than softwood timber.

Hardwood timber is also easier to maintain and clean than softwood timber and regular preservation of timber conservatories is a critical practice to perpetuate their existence.

All of our conservatories are designed to last so you can enjoy your new living space for years to come, speak to one of our advisors for more information.

What is a timber conservatory and why should you choose one?

A timber conservatory has its own individual appeal.

Timber conservatories are made from one of the earth’s most sustainable materials (wood) and their natural hardwood grain is pleasingly sympathetic to the aesthetics of traditional and period residences.

As well as elegantly and effortlessly blending into most home surroundings, timber conservatories can be shaped how you like, such is the flexibility of wood, allowing you to have a truly bespoke design.

Timber is seriously strong and tough too and with some little bits of upkeep here and there, will retain its resilience.

It’s not unusual for a timber conservatory to match or exceed the life expectancy of UPVC and aluminium conservatories.

Do you need planning permission for a wooden conservatory?

Most timber conservatory installations can proceed without planning permission.

Generally, a timber conservatory will not necessitate the submission of a planning application to your local authority. However, it MUST conform to Permitted Development guidelines for this to be the case.

If a proposed timber conservatory design infringes any of the limits and conditions to enjoy Permitted Development status, an application will need to be drawn up and sent to the relevant planning committee so that you don’t incur any legal implications or complications in the future.

Guidance on all things relating to planning permission can be sought from County.

We will demystify the topic of planning permission for you and assist with the organising of the paperwork should you need official authorisation to have a timber conservatory built at your home.

How do you maintain a conservatory?

Maintaining a conservatory is simpler than you may think.

Conservatory maintenance sounds like an all-embracing job that’s going to take up lots of your valuable time, but it really isn’t.

Clean the glazed sections of any window and doors using a soft cloth and water with soap or washing-up liquid once a month. For those hard-to-remove window or door stains, try a commercial window cleaning solution or cream and it should shift them.

Lubricate any locks, handles, and hinges with light machine oil once they start to feel a little stiff.

Dirt, debris, and leaves in your guttering need to be removed as a build-up of it can cause a blockage and increases the risk of water damage occurring. Please, don’t endanger your safety in any way if doing this yourself – employ a cleaning expert if need be.

Do you offer a bespoke wooden conservatory design service?

We love giving customers the flexibility to design a bespoke wooden conservatory.

When struggling to find a wooden conservatory style that’s exactly right for your home, there’s only one thing for it – design a customised solution at County.

Our advisors are happy to produce a conservatory design that’s tailored just for you from top to bottom, inside and out.

Notify us of how you see the wooden conservatory being configured, what size you need it to be, the roof type, windows, and doors that you want etc., and we’ll bring this vision to life.

There may be aspects of the design process where you require expert guidance. Any input that’s asked for will be well-informed and can be trusted.

What doors can I add to a wooden conservatory?

French, bi-folding, or patio doors – three feature doors to finish off a wooden conservatory.

If you would like a feature door included in your new wooden conservatory so that you can open the space in summer, it needs to be a perfect companion for the design and draw in added light. Your chosen feature door will also be determined by cost and personal taste.

County’s wooden conservatories can embrace French doors, bi-folding doors, and patio doors.

French doors are a traditional favourite, full of elegance and offer an outward opening, while a bi-folding door consists of numerous panels that you can seamlessly fold away as you open it. Otherwise, there’s always the space-saving patio door to gain quick and direct access to the garden from a wooden conservatory.
