Timber Windows

TIMBER WINDOWS

Our timber window range offers the opportunity of enjoying your traditional built home but with the benefits of 21st century living.
Embrace natural timber with modern benefits.

Our timber windows combine the traditional detailing you would expect from timber windows without the common problems associated with the material. Made from multi-layered timber sections, you don’t have to worry about warping and twisting.

Instead of using traditional gloss paint, we get our timber windows from our manufacturer, aptly named Timber Windows, who use three coats of micro-porous paint. This makes the windows incredibly weather resistant and prevents the colour from chipping, peeling or fading.

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT TIMBER WINDOWS

Replacing timber windows is a big decision so it’s expected you’ll have questions about our range. We’ve answered some of the most common questions we get about our timber window range below. If you have any other questions please contact a member of our team for advice.

How to care for Timber Windows?

Ensure your timber windows’ longevity and maintain their aesthetic appeal over time.

Caring for timber windows is crucial to preserve their beauty and functionality. To achieve this, begin with routine cleaning. Use a soft, damp cloth or sponge to wipe away dust, dirt, and grime. Avoid abrasive materials that could scratch the wood.

You should periodically examine the timber for signs of damage, such as cracks, rot, or peeling paint. Address these issues promptly to prevent further deterioration.

Timber windows should be repainted or refinished every few years. Scrape off old paint, sand the surface, and apply a high-quality primer and paint or wood finish. This protects against moisture and UV damage.

Ensure that there are no gaps or cracks in the window frame. Use sealant to seal any openings to prevent draughts and moisture infiltration.

Maintain good indoor ventilation to prevent condensation on the windows, which can lead to wood rot. Use dehumidifiers if necessary.

Direct sunlight can fade and damage wood. Consider adding UV-protective film or shades to reduce sun exposure.

Regularly clean and lubricate window hardware like locks, hinges, and handles to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation.

Routinely inspect for signs of insect infestations, like termites. Use appropriate treatments if needed.

By following these steps, you can ensure your timber windows remain attractive and functional for many years, enhancing the overall appeal and value of your home.

How long will timber frames last?

Our timber frames are designed to last.

The lifespan of timber frames can vary significantly depending on various factors, including the type of timber used, the quality of construction, maintenance, and environmental conditions. In general, well-maintained timber frames have the potential to last for several decades to even centuries.

The choice of timber species plays a significant role in longevity. Similarly, the craftsmanship and quality of construction are crucial. Proper joinery, seasoning, and treatment can extend the life of timber frames.

Regular maintenance, including sealing, painting, or staining to protect against moisture and pests, is essential. Neglected timber frames are more susceptible to decay.

The climate and environment in which the timber frame is situated can impact its lifespan. Frames in dry, well-ventilated areas may last longer than those exposed to constant moisture or extreme temperature fluctuations.

Infestations by insects or wood-boring pests can significantly reduce a timber frame’s lifespan. Preventative measures and regular inspections are crucial.

Generally, with proper care and maintenance, timber frames can last 50 years or more. Exceptionally well-preserved historic timber frames have been known to endure for centuries. However, it’s essential to keep in mind that regular upkeep and repairs may be necessary to ensure the longevity of timber frames, making them a sustainable and long-lasting choice for construction.

Which house types suit timber windows?

Timber windows can be a suitable choice for various house types.

Timber windows offer a timeless and versatile aesthetic that complements both traditional and modern architectural styles.

Whether you have a Tudor, Victorian, or Georgian property, timber windows are an excellent fit for these homes. Our replacement timber windows can be customised to match the traditional design and proportions of each era.

Timber windows aren’t limited to historical properties. They can also be incorporated into modern and eco-friendly designs, adding warmth and a natural element to sleek, minimalist homes.

In conservation areas, timber windows are often favoured to maintain the historical integrity of the neighbourhood.

Will wooden windows add value to my house?

Timber windows have the potential to add value to your house.

The extent of their contribution to your home’s value depends on various factors, including the quality of the windows, the overall condition of your property, and the preferences of potential buyers or appraisers.

Here are several reasons why wooden windows can enhance your home’s value:

Timber windows offer a classic and timeless look that can enhance the overall kerb appeal of your home. They often exude a sense of quality and craftsmanship that appeals to many buyers.

High-quality timber windows, when properly maintained, can provide excellent insulation. Energy-efficient windows are increasingly sought after, as they can lead to lower utility bills and improved comfort, thus increasing the attractiveness of your property.

Well-maintained timber windows can last for decades or even longer. Their longevity can be viewed as a valuable asset by potential buyers.

If your house is a historical or period property, wooden windows are often the preferred choice to maintain its authenticity. This can be a significant selling point for buyers interested in such homes.

Wooden windows can be customised to fit the architectural style of your home, which can make your property stand out in the market.

However, it’s essential to note that the overall impact on your home’s value also depends on the local real estate market and the preferences of buyers in your area. To maximise the value-added by wooden windows, ensure they are well-maintained and in line with the overall condition and style of your property. You can trust County to help with this.
